Things to consider when choosing your Bathroom Vanity Unit

Your bathroom vanity unit is an important feature in your bathroom, it’s where you brush your teeth and where you store those bathroom essentials. But, just because it’s a practical feature that doesn’t mean an average set of drawers will do the job. Your bathroom deserves more, so whether it’s for your ensuite or family bathroom, here are some things to consider when choosing your bathroom vanity unit.

Bathroom Storage

How much storage do you need? This is a good question to ask yourself when designing your bathroom vanity. Depending on your space, and what you plan to store in your vanity, we can help you design a vanity unit that fits your requirements the best. Cabinet doors that swing open take up different amounts of space than drawers that pull open out front. Depending on the size and layout of your bathroom, one may be a better option than the other.

Wall Hung Vanity Unit

Our bathroom vanities come in a variety of designs, but they usually fall into one of two categories either a freestanding vanity unit or wall hung vanity unit. Freestanding vanity units are popular because can be put in any location in your bathroom, however, wall hung vanities as the name suggests, are mounted on a wall.

Freestanding Vanity Unit

Freestanding bathroom vanities are used in all sizes of bathrooms and they come in sizes from compact/slim to extra large, whereas wall hung bathroom vanities are very popular for small bathrooms as they help to maximise space, but also come in a wide range of sizes too. Both freestanding and wall hung vanity units are available in a variety of styles, designs and colours, so you can have it built to your requirements and space. It’s also worth mentioning tall bathroom cabinets which are perfect for tight spaces or to place in corner of the room. A tall painted bathroom cabinet will add practicality and provide ample storage for your bathroom essentials.

The best place for a bathroom vanity

A bathroom vanity unit can be a focal point in your bathroom, so where you place it is really important. The layout of your bathroom can help you decide, such as between two windows or opposite the door.

It’s also important to consider the space around the vanity unit, to ensure  it isn’t blocking anything, or causing difficulties when moving around. If you are choosing a vanity unit with doors, make sure when they open, they don’t hit anything that could cause damage.

Sink Style

When you plan your bathroom vanity unit you’ll probably spend a long time thinking about the taps and the basin style. These things impact the look and style but also the functionality of your vanity. And with so many options it can be difficult to choose. One way to think about it is, how much countertop space do you want, and how big do you want the sink?

The second and perhaps most important question is do you want an under counter sink or counter top sink. Both are completely different, sit on top basins are typically part of a modern bathroom design. They can be a beautiful focal point in your bathroom, offering practicality and functionality. Under-mounted sinks, merge themselves with the countertop surface creating a streamline effect that is extremely stylish.

The Size

The size of your vanity will be dependent on the space you have available in your bathroom. We always recommend measuring your space twice, just to be extra sure that the vanity will fit in your space. You don’t want to buy one and then find out it doesn’t fit, it is better to measure several times to avoid this (yes it has happened several times).
